There are plenty of official caravan and camping sites along the Sandstone Trail for walkers who prefer simple or inexpensive accommodation, or who want to get away in the morning with the minimum of fuss.
Because the Sandstone Trail runs through intensively farmed Cheshire countryside and a series of private estates, wild camping is not an option.
The largest caravan and camping site on the Sandstone Trail is undoubtedly the Delamere Forest Camping and Caravanning Club Site, on Station Road, on the edge of Delamere Forest. There are plenty of other camping and caravan sites all along the route, too, many of them attached to either farms or pubs.

Another alternative for small groups of walkers on the Sandstone Trail is to book the Old Smithy Camping Barn, at Higher Burwardsley. Essentially a ‘stone tent’, it is basic but dry and well equipped, and close to the picturesque central section of the Sandstone Trail.
